KRISTI HOI
Kristi Hoi is an award winning writer-director, producer, and artist based in Los Angeles, California.
Kristi’s graduating thesis film, “No Law, No Heaven,” won the 2021 Student Academy Award (OSCARS) and was nominated for the 2021 BAFTA Student Award (British Academy of Film and Television Arts). “No Law, No Heaven” is also a winner of the Gotham x JetBlue x Focus Features Student Filmmaker Award and was available on JetBlue in-flight entertainment across the nation in 2021. “No Law, No Heaven” has screened at film festivals all over the world including San Diego International Film Festival, SCAD Savannah Film Festival, Hong Kong Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, and Beijing Queer Film Festival. The film was featured in the 2022 Annual Showcase: Hong Kong Generations of Cinema Shorts Program presented by Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival and sponsored by the Hong Kong Economic Trade Office, screening along side Wong Kar Wai’s “The Hand” as a celebration of Hong Kong cinema then and now. “No Law, No Heaven” is available for streaming online and is distributed by Focus Features.
Kristi is a graduate of the renown University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Master of Fine Arts Directing program and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Sequential Art and Sound Design.
As an artist by trade and a storyteller by nature, their work is a deep dive into vivid worlds featuring themes of duality, family and identity, featuring ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances.
Kristi boasts 7 years of production experience with a variety of technical and leadership skills to support all stages of filmmaking, from pre-production to post-production. From Producing and 1st Assistant Directing independent commercials, shorts, and features to working as an Assistant to the Producer on feature-length films at MGM Studios (The Addams Family 2) and Netflix (Unreleased Animated Feature), Kristi has a critical eye for detail while maintaining an understanding of the bigger picture. Paired with proactive problem solving and anticipating the needs of the production, Kristi is an all-rounder on set and in the production office.
When not working on narrative projects, Kristi is an accomplished Commercial Producer and 1st Assistant Director with clients such as Coca-Cola, Wet n Wild, Vero Social, Physicians Formula, and Lip Smacker where her work garners millions of impressions on social media, digital advertisement, and streamers.
